Irani discusses custom related issue of carpet exporters

Textile Minister Smriti Zubin Irani Friday held a meeting with Najeeb Shah, Chairman, Central Board of Excise & Customs & Dinesh Gupta, Director (Drawback) and Ministry of Finance in her chamber regarding the issue raised by the Carpet Exporters for damaging carpets by the Port Authorities for price determination, composition etc. meant for exports.
In the above meeting Rashmi Verma, Textiles Secretary, Pushpa Subrahmanyam, Addl. Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Alok Kumar, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) and Sushil Gaikwad, Addl. Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) were present.
From CEPC Umer Hameed, Member COA who is also the would be 2nd Vice-Chairman, Shiv Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & Nirmal Kumar Guin were also present.
The Hon'ble Textiles Minister apprised the officials of Finance Ministry that due to cutting of carpets, the carpets are damaged and the exporters cannot realize the value of their carpets which discourage them for exports. They face other relevant problems also in exports.
Najeeb Shah understood the problem and assured the Hon'ble Textile Minister that a mechanism in consultation with the Textiles Ministry can be worked out for price verification and composition etc. so that cutting of the carpets meant for exports shall be avoided.
After discussing the matter with the above officials the Hon'ble Textile Minister stated that for price determination and composition etc. there shall be no cutting of the carpets meant for exports and the port authorities can seek assistance of the O/o. the Textiles Committee, Mumbai and the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, Bhadohi
Mahavir (Raja) Sharma, Chairman, CEPC Abdul Rub, Vice-Chairman, CEPC, Umesh Kumar Gupta, Member COA, Umer Hameed, Shri Siddh Nath Singh would be First Vice-Chairman and all Committee Members of CEPC on behalf of the Carpet Industry welcome the above initiative of the Hon'ble Textile Minister for resolving the long pending demand of the Carpet Industry.
