What was 3000 kg of explosives doing in Kerala?

A huge cache of explosive material, including detonators, gelatin sticks and fuse wire, was seized from a lorry in Malappuram district of Kerala early today and two people were arrested in this connection, police said.


A police team searched the vehicle, bearing a Karnataka registration number, at Mongam on specific instructions from District Police Chief Debesh Kumar Behera.


The search revealed 10,000 detonators, 3,750 kilograms of gelatin sticks and 213 rolls of fuse wire hidden under packs of chicken droppings used as manure, they said.  -- PTI


The vehicle was on its way to Kozhikode in Kerala from Hassan district in Karnataka.


Two drivers of the truck were arrested under Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 286 of the IPC when they they failed to produce documents supporting the consignment, the police said.


The two will be produced before a court in the afternoon, they said, adding that an investigation was on. -- PTI
