Oscars: Lebanon Gets First Foreign-Language Nomination
January 23, 2018  19:20
Lebanon is going to the Academy Awards.

The Insult, Ziad Doueri's tense Beirut-set courtroom thriller, has become the first Lebanese film to nominatied for the Oscars' foreign-language category, being named in the final shortlist of five on Tuesday.

The nomination is all the more remarkable given the furore that erupted in Lebanon surrounding The Insult, with a boycott campaign launched against the film due to Doueri's previous feature The Attack having partly been filmed in Israel.

Doueri himself said that he was convinced the film wouldn't even get a release in Lebanon.
