Himachal polls in December?

The Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Jyoti and two Election Commissioners T Rawat and Sunil Arora, will be in Shimla on Sunday, September 24, to review Himachal Pradesh's election preparedness.

The term of the 68-member Himachal Pradesh assembly will end on January 7, 2018. The Election Commission will have to conduct polls before that.

The CEC with his two colleagues are also planning a visit to Gujarat in the first week of October. The dates for their travel have not been finalised. May be 7th and 8th October for Gandhi Nagar the visit

The full bench of the EC will activate the state election officer to hold meetings with the district level and block level returning officials and all-party political leaders' meetings.

Sources in the EC say Himachal Pradesh may go for polls by the third week of December 2017.


Union Minister for health JP Nadda, BJP's in-charge for state Mangal Panday, Minister for Social Justice & empowerment Thawarchand Gehlot and other leaders from Himachal reached Kangra on Thursday. BJP president Amit Shah is set to hold a rally in the state today.
