Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan met Governor Vidyasagar Rao today ostensibly to brief him about the vice chancellor's appointment.

But sources say the the real reason for the meeting is to express her views on the state administration.

Vaidyanathan is believed to have conveyed her apprehensions about ministers and bureaucrats seeking favours and wants to overturn decisions taken by previous governments.

Vaidhyanathan was overlooked and her portfolio of Director of Anti-corruption and vigilance was taken away from her. This was done by the AIADMK, said a source.

She is now being considered as a candidate for secretary at the Centre.

From the 1981 IAS batch, she has a PhD in health economics from IIT Madras and her appointment as chief secretary has taken many by surprise.

She was always an unpopular officer for the AIADMK, unlike the DMK which used her vision and ideas in many programmes and policies. This is a real surprise, said a senior government secretary.

Girija replaced P Rama Mohan Rao after IT raids were conducted at his residence and he was found guilty of graft.
