BJP MLA wants slaughter houses closed for Mahavir Jayanti

BJP MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha and some representatives of the Jain community today demanded that slaughter houses in Maharashtra should remain closed tomorrow on account of Mahavir Jayanti.

The Bombay High Court recently set aside an old government directive to municipal bodies to ban meat sale on Mahavir Jayanti.

"The state government is planning to approach Supreme Court after Bombay High Court allowed slaughter houses to remain open, but they would remain open on Sunday (tomorrow) when Jains will be celebrating Mahavir Jayanti. We are requesting that these shops be closed for one day, and we hope the state will take some decision," Lodha said.
