AIADMK leadership working on strategy to prevent split

As the other OBC groups in the AIADMK feel restive over the dominance of Thevars in the party in the wake of Jayalalithaa's demise -- both Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and Sasikala are Thevars -- all-out efforts are underway to ensure that this does not spill over into a full-scale war leading to a split in the party.

Sources said a peace formula is being worked out whereby the other caste groups, notably the Gounders, are pacified with distribution of important party posts.

It is the pressure to ensure that the party remains united, for at least a year if not longer, that is said to have led to squabbles among AIADMK's top leadership. Things could take a turn for the worse if these differences come out in the open.
