Ravi Shankar asked me if I wash every day: Anoushka's husband

"We went for dinner at her parents home in California, only there was a power cut, so we ate an incredible tandoori meal by candlelight. Anoushkas mother is an amazing cook, and Ravi was an incredibly sweet conversationalist. We talked about films, travel, everything. He was fascinating.

The next morning, I came downstairs alone we had, of course, been consigned to separate bedrooms and he was at the kitchen counter. He asked if I had slept well, then said: Do you wash every day? I told him yes. After a pause, he said: All over, or just hands and face? The Indians think the British dont wash very well, you see. So I was relieved that my ablutions met with approval."
