Prime Minister Narendra Modi is staying the iconic Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York.

He is staying in one of the 26 presidential suites, which has hosted many American presidents.

Reports say the living room of Modi's suite, which is on the 35th floor, has items used by earlier US presidents, like the rocking chair of John F Kennedy, and also their portraits. He is reportedly staying in suite 35 A, which has a foyer, a living room, a dining room and a kitchen, reports NDTV.

Modi's team considered other hotels like The Pierre for his stay, but reportedly chose The Waldorf Astoria because of its banquet facilities.

Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif is also staying there. However, US President Barack Obama has picked the New York Palace Hotel, where PM Modi stayed during his earlier visit.

Obama is believed to be wary of spying in the Waldorf, which was bought by a Chinese insurance company last year.
