President Pranab Mukherjee has been concerned about the bad publicity in the print media about him and his secretariat over the Lalit Modi episode.
For the last 36 months, the President has always got very positive publicity, and as his tenure comes to an end in another two years -- the Lalit Modi saga is not something he wants to be remembered by. Lalit Modi, in a tweet, had accused Omita Paul of having connections with a big hawala operator.
In the past three months his erstwhile colleagues have repeatedly talked about how badly the economy had fared during the time when Pranab Mukherjee was finance minister in the UPA government.
Insiders says that the President feels the Lalit Modi taint on the presidency has been orchestrated by his arch rival, his successor in the North Block.
