Final hearing begins in 2002 Gulberg society riot case

The special trial court for the 2002 Gulberg Society riot case, in which 68 people including former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri were killed,commenced hearing today on a day-to-day basis. Advocates of both the sides appeared before the special trial court judge P B Desai today.

On behalf of the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigating Team (SIT), Special Public Prosecutor R C Kodekar submitted details of the initial part of the investigation in the case.

The SIT lawyer said before the court that the case was investigated earlier by seven to eight police officers after which it was transferred to the SIT.

Tomorrow, the SIT is set to place details of the accused and the chargesheets made against them, Kodekar said. There were eight chargesheets made in the case, which were later consolidated after a Supreme Court order, he said.
