The Bharatiya Janata Party has suspended its MLA from Kota for threatening a senior medical officer in an audio that has gone viral on WhatsApp.

"I will skin you alive. You won't sleep at night. I will put such fear in you," Prahlad Gunjal is heard telling a chief medical and health officer.

The lawmaker was allegedly threatening R N Yadav, the CMO of Kota district, for transferring of a male nurse related to a party worker.

Gunjal has now been booked for threatening the officer. The police on Thursday registered a first information report against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for intimidating and threatening the officer over the phone.

However, doctors across Kota have announced a strike demanding action against the MLA.

In the audio clip, Gunjal is heard telling the CMO that he would kick him, cut off his hair and beat him with shoes; he also threatens Dr Yadav's family.

The doctor has resigned in protest and has been provided security by the police.

Gunjal said he just "scolded" Dr Yadav but didn't threaten him. He claimed that he had asked Dr Yadav to reconsider the nurse's transfer four times but he didn't listen.
