'Ghar wapsi' for Dr Maitreyan

Not many know that AIADMK member of Parliament Dr V Maitreyan was an RSS pracharak. Usually clad in the Tamil attire of veshti and white shirt, today he wore a kurta and pyjama to Parliament, which provoked many MPs to inquire after the reason for the change in style.

While Jairam Ramesh said it was due to "climate change', Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi inside the Rajya Sabha, said Dr Maitreyan's kurta-pyjama indicated "ghar wapsi".

What he probably meant was Maitreyan's return to sartorial roots, but given the current political climate, it seemed like a quip laded with meaning, that Dr Maitreyan might come back to the RSS.

In the meantime, though, everyone had a good laugh over it.
