Singer Zubeen Garg's concert interrupted in Guwahati as organisers oppose Hindi songs
The singer, who was singing "Dil tu hi bata" from the Hrithik Roshan starer "Krrish 3" was visibly taken aback by the sudden interruption.
Renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg's concert in Guwahati was interrupted on Friday night due to objections over him singing in Hindi. Garg was performing at a concert organised by the Noonmati Bihu Committee on the occasion of Assamese New Year when the organisers went up the stage and stopped the performance stating that he could not sing Hindi songs.
"Can't sing Hindi songs here, you can sing them elsewhere," one of the organisers were heard saying over the microphone. To this, the singer responded by saying, "Why can't I sing in Hindi? Bihu is a musical festival so I can sing in any language I wish."
But opposing the move, the organisers insisted that there was a tradition of presenting only Assamese music during the event. The singer, who was singing "Dil tu hi bata" from the Hrithik Roshan starer "Krrish 3" was visibly taken aback by the sudden interruption. A bitter argument ensued.
"I will sing whatever I like, you cannot dictate me. I've been singing for 25 years," the singer replied over microphone as the entire audience vociferously rallied behind the singer. Upset over the incident, Garg told the organisers that he doesn't need money for the programme and left the stage abruptly after apologising to his fans. "I love you but I don't love these people. It's over," the singer was heard saying.
"I'm a straightforward person...I can't bow down to anyone. You (organisers) don't have to pay me for this event. I leaving the show," Garg told the organiser before leaving.
