Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

After winning Uttar Pradesh with an overwhelming mandate, the BJP's next big frontier is Gujarat where the party has set itself a target of 150 seats.

Keen to do a UP in Gujarat, the BJP plans to bring in none other than Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as the star campaigner for the election season.

Gearing up for the election, which is likely to take place end of this year, the ruling BJP has already launched its election slogan: "UP mein 325, Gujarat mein 150".

The party is eyeing a three-fourth majority in the Assembly election which will see the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party too fighting to reclaim lost ground.

HERE IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BJP's GUJARAT STRATEGY:
  1. At a recent meeting of the BJP, which was presided by state BJP president Jitu Vaghani, a first list of the star campaigners was chalked out. "An initial list of BJP campaigners has been drawn and Yogi Adityanath will be one of the star campaigners," Vaghani was quoted in a report by Ahmedabad Mirror.
  2. Besides Yogi Adityanath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah too will be campaigning in the state. The BJP's new power couple--Amit Shah and Narendra Modi--started their successful political careers from Gujarat.
  3. There were speculations about the BJP going for an early election to ride the Modi wave and beat the incumbency factor. The state BJP president Vaghani however said the party was not planning an early election.
  4. The BJP faces a litmus test in Gujarat this time after the party's poor showing in the 2015 panchayat elections where the Congress won 23 of the 31 district panchayats.
  5. The resentment among the Patel community, which led to the emergence of Hardik Patel, along with farmer suicides and attacks on Dalits have given the Opposition enough fodder to corner the government.
  6. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Gujarat for two days wherein he is believed to have met senior leaders from the party, including Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, and issued directives to state party unit on preparing for the election.
  7. Winning Gujarat is a matter of pride for the BJP which is already eyeing the 2019 Lok Sabha election. BJP president Amit Shah will be in the state on March 29-30 and is expected to address workers as well as hold discussions with party leaders.
