Addressing Lok Sabha today, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today taunted the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, whose alliance had suffered a humiliating defeat in the recent state election at the hands of the BJP.

"I am 44. I want to tell you, (Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun) Kharge ji, Rahul ji is 45. He is not here, but I am a year older than him... Nobody from Samajwadi Party also here. Akhilesh Yadav is 43. I want to tell them that I came between them. That perhaps explains your defeat," Adityanath said, causing a collective chuckle from the treasury benches.
At this, Kharge stood up and reminded Adityanath of the dignity of the House. "Adityanath ji, you are 44, a year older than Rahul ji, and now the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. I suggest you maintain the dignity of the chair you now occupy," the Congress leader said.

Adityanath's speech in the Lok Sabha came at the end of a long day highlighted by his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi , BJP president Amit Shah, and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. He is also scheduled to meet President Pranab Mukherjee later today.
The various rounds of discussions were reportedly held to decide the allocation of portfolios in the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, which Adityanath now heads.
