Mastermind of Delhi's twin murder case arrested in Vasant Vihar, severed head of victim recovered

The bodies of two women were found in Vasant Vihar and Munirka on November 18 and 25 respectively.

Vasant Vihar police has arrested Arjun Thapa, the mastermind behind the murders of 2 women in Delhi in November.

Here are the details of the case:

1. Police arrested Thapa, the mastermind of the twin murder case who had been absconding, and recovered the missing head of one of the victims.

2. The bodies of two women were found in Vasant Vihar and Munirka on November 18 and 25 respectively. While the first victim's body was found wrapped in a polythene sheet outside a temple in Vasant Vihar on November 18, the second woman's headless body was found in a sewer in Munirka village on November 25.

3. It must be mentioned that with the arrests of the accused Jeevan and Mini Sangam earlier, there was breakthrough in the twin murder case but the mastermind Arjun and another accomplice identified as Govind, as confessed by the arrested accused, had been at large. Govind continues to be fleeing.

3. Thapa, who belongs to Nepal and was living in Munirka in Delhi, was arrested late on December 18 from Agra in Uttar Pradesh. During the interrogation, the arrested accused Jeevan and Mini Sangam had confessed that Arjun had several bases, not only in Delhi, but also accomplices and necessary support in several other states.

4. As last reported, when cell locations of some of the numbers being then used by Arjun were traced, he was found to be near an International Border that gave the impression that he might have left India. But on being grilled further, Mini Sangam revealed that while leaving Delhi, Arjun had made categorical plans to return soon and move to a south Indian location from where he could carry out his spa-related facilitation services.

5. An extensive ground-level verification of Arjun's contacts showed he had further links with south Indian locations. This exercise was carried out in order to zero-in on those suspects, who could at a later date, be tapped by Arjun to move down south as told by Sangam.

6. In the process, several suspects from Agra and nearby tourist areas were identified and interrogated. The results soon yielded results when it was learnt that Arjun was in a particular location in Agra. Without wasting time, a special team was dispatched that successfully arrested him from near the Waterworks Crossing in Agra and brought him to Delhi.

7. Upon sustained interrogation, Arjun confessed to his crime and when he was asked about the missing 'head', he said. 'in the next gutter, sir'. Following this confession, a sewer manhole close to the one from where the headless body of Sushma was discovered, was opened at his pointing out towards that and a female skull was recovered. The same was taken into police custody for forensic examination. Efforts are being made to apprehend his absconding associate Govind. Further investigation is in progress.
