UP minister vows not to wear a sweater until all children get theirs as promised by Yogi government

Uttar Pradesh's MoS for basic education Anupama Jaiswal has taken timely cognizance of delay in government's scheme to distribute sweaters to school children and in lieu has taken a unique step.

Accepting that the delay has been from the government's end, Jaiswal announced that she wouldn't wear a sweater until all government students get theirs as promised. She believes this move will not only hasten the process but also help motivate officials to work more compassionately towards the cause.

Explaining the reason behind the hold-up, the minister said there was a technical glitch in the department concerned which will soon be taken care of. But, meanwhile, all primary school students have been given shoes and socks as part of the same scheme.

Jaiswal further said that her decision to not wear a sweater in solidarity with the children stems out of motherly affection for all and has no political motive attached to it.

Batting for the Yogi government, the MoS for basic education said that this step has been undertaken to make children and their parents understand that the state government cares about them.

Not missing the opportunity, the opposition raked in the issue and attacked the Yogi government for their lackadaisical approach in an initiative for the children.

Former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was among the first ones to pull the incumbent CM over the sweater scheme debacle, he tweeted,

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government is going to emphasise on convent education after it distributes books, socks and sweaters to improve basic education.
