Underworld don Arun Gawli's daughter supports BJP in BMC
Gawli, who also visited the Shiv Sena headquarters on Thursday, surprised many by her decision on Friday.
Convicted underworld don-turned-politician Arun Gawli's daughter Geeta has extended support to BJP in the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Geeta has been elected as a corporator from ward No 212 in central Mumbai's Byculla area.
Geeta met top BJP leaders including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis before finally making the announcement. Geeta was welcomed in the city BJP office by party leader Yogesh Sagar and Manoj Kotak.
"The Chief Minister has promised me that the development work in my area will receive all the support and hence I have decided to support the party," Geeta said while talking to reporters in the Mumbai BJP office.
Gawli, who also visited the Shiv Sena headquarters on Thursday, surprised many by her decision on Friday. "I have no grudge against Uddhav ji but yes the leaders who work under him surely disappointed me, as they were not willing to co-operate with us," informed Geeta.
Both the Shiv Sena and BJP were trying to woo Geeta Gawli to their sides for last few day. In the outgoing house Geetas party the Akhil Bhartiya Sena (floated by her father Arun Gawli) had supported the Shivsena. ABS then had 2 members in the house, but this only Geeta managed to win, while her party contested 30 seats.
Geeta's father and former underworld Don Arun Gawli is presently lodged in the Nagpur central jail convicted in connection with the 2008 murder case.
