IT officials visited Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence. The state government has set a deadline of four months to acquire Veda Nilayam. The two rooms in the house could also be unsealed in the presence of IT officials.

Earlier, senior officials had come to the house to check on how to convert Jayalalithaa's residence into a memorial, which led to a debate about whether it was right to take such a move since there still is no clarity on who the properties now belong to.

Jaya's blood relatives, Deepa and Deepak Jayakumar have been claiming the properties. Apart from that, the Arumugam Swamy Commission inquiring on the doubts surrounding Jaya's death is underway and to have such decisions by the state government is also being questioned now.

Jaya had passed away on December 5,2016 and two rooms in her property, which were used by her personal-secretary Poongundran and Jaya's close associate Sasikala, were sealed by IT Sleuths when they conducted a raid a few months back. Now, IT officials paid the house a visit to unseal the rooms.

On December 30, as part of the inspection to convert the residence into memorial, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax department visited Jaya's Poes Garden residence. Apart from the IT officials, Collector & Revenue department Officials were also present. Today's visit by the IT department is seen as a follow up to that.
