Success for Indian diplomacy: 'IS recruit' may soon return to India

Tabrez Tambe, 28, who allegedly joined the terror outfit ISIS in January last year may soon return back to India after being traced to shelter camp in Libya by Indian agencies.

The breakthrough for agencies came when Dr Ramamurthy Kosanam who was in ISIS captivity for two years returned to Karnataka this February.

Dr Kosanam confirmed that Abu Noor from Mumbai, who was with him in the shelter camp, is Tabrez Tamber. He was shown a picture of Tambe after which he confirmed Tambe's identity. Indian agencies have sent a request a request to Libyan agencies to get back Tambe and are awaiting a response.

An officer close to the development said, "Libyan agencies will first carry out their investigations on Tambe's role with the banned outfit and depending on his role and action in the crime they will decide whether to send him back or not."

Tambe had left the country with his friend Ali Al Shahri, a Saudi national. He met Ali while working in Saudi Arabia and Ali indoctrinated him and later visited India along with Tambe. It was also revealed that Ali sent some money to Tambe in November last year.

If Tambe returns to India it will be the second case where an Indian has returned to the country after joining the terror outfit.

In November 2014, Areeb Majeed had returned from West Asia and was booked for waging war against a friendly nation. Majeed will soon undergo trial in the case under investigation by National Investigation Authority.
