Bihar: Gopalganj DM adopts Gandhigiri to make Swachh Bharat Abhiyan a success

The District Magistrate of Gopalganj has adopted Gandhgiiri to end open defecation in the district and make Swachh Bharat a success.

Gopalganj District Magistrate Rahul Kumar has resorted to Gandhigiri to appeal to the people of the district not to indulge in open defecation.

The DM's move comes on the occasion of completion of two years of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on October 2, an ambitious scheme launched by PM Narendra Modi.

RATRI CHAUPAL, NIGHT PATROLLING MAKE PEOPLE AWARE

Kumar, in a bid to make people aware not to defecate in the open, is carrying out night patrolling and wherever he finds villagers defecating in open, he with folded hands asks them to refrain from doing so.

"I have initiated this move to clean Gopalganj district. Centre and state are running several schemes to end open defecation in the country. We are informing people about those schemes", said Rahul Kumar, Gopalganj DM.

Rahul Kumar wants at least two blocks in Gopalgang- Panch Devri and Thawe- to become free from open defecation ahead of October 2, when the country would celebrate Gandhi Jayanti.

Kumar is also organizing "Ratri Chaupal" in his district to make Swachh Bharat Abhiyan a success.

"We are trying to end open defecation in Gopalganj district by 2017. We are also working on building four lakh toilets in the district by the same year."

Moved by the efforts of the DM, villagers have started building toilets in their homes.
