BJP leader Sushil Modi on Tuesday alleged that Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chowdhary was linked to the multi-crore employment scam. Modi said that Chowdhary through his personal secretary Navin had sent an SMS to Chairman of Bihar Staff Selection Commission Sudhir Kumar, seeking favour for his candidates.

Modi backed his allegations with a print copy of the purported details of the SMS, which was allegedly sent by the personal secretary of the Speaker to the BSSC Chairman on 9th and 20th January.

Speaking to journalists, Modi referred to the Speaker sometimes as a JD-U leader and sometimes as a Minister. However, the printout copy of the SMS clearly shows that the message was sent by Navin, the Speaker's personal secretary.

SUSHIL MODI's CHARGE

"The personal secretary of a senior JD-U leader sent an SMS to BSSC Chairman Sudhir Kumar and pressurised him to appoint candidates, whose names were forwarded by the JD-U leader. I have a copy of the SMS, which was sent to Sudhir Kumar. It needs to be investigated on whose instruction the personal secretary sent the SMS", Modi said.

Replying to the Motion of Thanks on the Governor's address on the first day of the Budget Session, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that charges being leveled by the opposition were absolutely baseless.

He said the purported SMS which Modi talked about pertained to exams conducted for the post of Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), while the BSSC scam was related to clerical grade test question paper leak. He also dismissed the opposition's demand for a CBI probe into the case.

"Does the SMS have any link with BSSC exam paper leak? The recommendation by the Speaker's Officer on Special Duty (OSD) was for Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM) and the BSSC exams were conducted for clerical grade test. If BJP thinks that the ruling party can interfere with the police investigation, the Centre can also interfere with CBI probe. SIT is conducting a fair probe into the job scam and the government is not trying to protect anyone", Nitish said.
