This comes a day after a terrorist attack in Manhattan claimed eight lives. But for the moment, the nature of the Thornton shooting is still unclear.
Two men and a woman have been killed in a shooting at a Walmart in Thornton in the US state of Colorado.
The first report of the shooting came in around 6 am (India time). Local police are now saying that the situation at the Colorado Walmart does not involve an "active shooter" but remains an "active crime scene".
Police said detectives are currently reviewing the security footage and witnesses are being interviewed regarding information pertaining to suspect(s).
A 44-year-old man was in the self-checkout line when he heard a single shot followed by more bursts of gunfire. The shooting caused panic among the customers who tried either hiding in the store or ran for the doors.
"I was scared. I feared for my life," said Stephens, who has lived in Thornton for 20 years.
