Sheena Bora murder case: Indrani forges Peter Mukherjea's signature to grab fixed deposits

A special CBI court on Wednesday asked banks to verify signatures and not act on any letters sent by Indrani Mukherjea, accused in Sheena Bora murder case.
Indrani, who is currently serving jail term in Mumbai's Byculla Jail, is alleged to have forged husband Peter Mukherjea's signature and addressed letters to two banks to grab joint accounts and fixed deposits.

She had addressed the letters to Syndicate Bank, Worli and a bank in New Zealand.

- According to sources, the money and fixed deposits lying in both the accounts are hard earned money of the couple. However, to withdraw money from both the accounts, signatures of both Indrani and Peter are required.
- The couple has been involved in a tiff ever since the case unfolded, hence, the money has been lying unused.
- Indrani refuses to sign the documents when Peter needs money and so does Peter when his wife wants to withdraw money.
- On February 1, Indrani sought permission from special CBI court to sign a few documents to which the investigative agency had no objection.
- The special CBI court had granted permission to Indrani to go ahead and sign the documents on February 4.
- While Peter's lawyers were examining these documents, it came to light that there was a letter from Peter with his signature stating that he was relinquishing his rights over these accounts.
- The lawyers immediately checked with Peter over the issue which he vehemently denied.
- Peter's lawyer Mihir Gheewala then filed an application in the special CBI court over the issue. Special CBI court judge HS Mahajan immediately took cognisance of the application and passed an order to the banks to verify the signatures and follow due procedure.
- Indrani holds few joint accounts with the former television head honcho. Notably, while the charges were framed last month, the special CBI court had dropped the forgery charges.
- Indrani is accused not only of killing her daughter but also forging her signatures and documents to show that Sheena was alive from 2012 to 2015, when case came to light.
- According to CBI, Indrani had ordered her secretary Kajal Sharma to forge Sheena's signature.
