After a letter written by Jammu and Kashmir DIG (Homeguard) Basant Kumar Rath to Rajasthan DGP Ajit Singh Shekhawat about IPS officer Devashish Deo went viral, Rajeev Dasot, Director at the Rajasthan Police Academy (RPA) and the man at the centre of the allegations, came out to defend himself.

Dasot claimed that accusations leveled were absolutely baseless and untrue.

The Jammu and Kashmir DIG, in his letter written to the top cop of Rajasthan, claimed that the salary of IPS officer Devashish Deo, who was posted as Deputy Director, was stopped and not paid for nine months.

Devashish had, on January 13 this year, sustained serious spinal injuries while on duty, which paralyzed him. After prolonged treatment, he passed away two days ago. The letter written by the Jammu and Kashmir DIG had also claimed that the family was not supported by Rajasthan Police during the course of the treatment. It also accused the Rajasthan Police of allotting Devashish a house meant for Circle Officer.

"I have also seen the allegation in the social media, which possibly some official, without verifying has put in the social media is a very big example of the misuse of social media. Reality is that his salary of any sort has not been stopped. Shri Devashish Deo was getting salary continuously, like if its the July's salary then was getting it on August 1, if its August's salary, then got it on September 1. In the same way, like we people are getting salary, in the same way, he also kept getting salary. And along with that, because the expenditure on treatment is such that sometimes the salary is not adequate. That is why, our DGP sanctioned additional 5 lakh rupees as well from the welfare fund. At no stage did it happen that his treatment was affected due to lack of funds. This thing, Devashish, his wife, we have been in constant touch, my senior officers have also been in touch. Never has this kind of a thing happened, They are completely satisfied. Along with that, one allegation is this also in that letter that he was kept in circle-level officer home." Rajeev Dasot, director, Rajasthan Police Academy, told India Today.

The letter mentioned that Jammu and Kashmir Police will be extending financial help of 50,000 rupees to the family of Devashish and mentioned that Rajasthan Police did not give even one worker during Devashish's treatment.

"When he got promoted, came here from Ajmer and was posted on the designation of Deputy Director, he was kept in the Academy's guest house. As he expressed the wish, to go home, he could have got a good house in Gandhi Nagar as well, but his wife made complete video of RPH headquarters, showed it to him that whether we should stay in this 3-BHK house or go to Gandhi Nagar? Both collectively decided that it was more beneficial for them to stay in RPA because RPA is a police colony" Dasot further said.

Dasot also mentioned that its untrue that the Rajasthan Police Academy (RPA) had written to the Home Ministry pertaining to Devashish's case.

"This thing has also come to the fore that for this, a letter was written from the RPA to the Home Ministry or Home department. This is also complete lie, like things said in the past. RPA, anyway, does not indulge in direct communication with the Home Department. No letter has ever gone from the RPA to the Home department. Therefore, all these statements are absolutely baseless, without any foundation and untrue. Are a very big example of misuse of social media," Dasot said.
