Patna wakes up to Ryan murder, DM holds consultations with private schools

In a bid to review the safety of children at the private schools in Patna, DM Sanjay Agarwal on Tuesday held meeting with authorities of all the private schools to discuss the Gurugram incident and take lessons from it.

The gruesome killing of 7-year-old Pradyuman Thakur at the Ryan International School in Gurugram, last week, seems to have set alarm bells ringing over the safety and security of children at schools across the country.

In a bid to review the safety of children at the private schools in Patna, DM Sanjay Agarwal on Tuesday held meeting with authorities of all the private schools to discuss the Gurugram incident and take lessons from it.

WHAT WAS DISCUSSED IN THE MEETING:

  • How children studying at private schools are provided better security, how parents and school authorities have a better channel of communication and how to improve the educational atmosphere in these schools.
  • Reviewing of all the facilities available at the private schools concerning the safety and security of children.
  • Strict action to be taken against the school if any kind of negligence is adopted pertaining to safety of children in the schools.
  • If lapses are found on part of the schools, the administration would write to CBSE, ICSE and Bihar School Examination Board for de-affiliation of the school.

  1. Are there complaint boxes available in the school?
  2. Does the school have SMS facility?
  3. Are there CCTV's installed in the schools?

The Patna DM in the meeting said that soon a team would be set up which would include the senior officials from the administration and a DSP level police officer to conduct a review of the safety measures being present in the schools, post the Gurugram incident. He also warned that if any lapses are found in any private school, stern action would be taken against them.
