Ramjas College violence: It hurts to be called anti-national, says DU professor attacked by mob
Delhi University professor Prasanta Chakravarty.

Delhi University professor Prasanta Chakravarty who was attacked and nearly strangled with his own muffler by suspected members of the ABVP during the Ramjas College protest said he is hurt at being called an "anti-national".

"It does upset me (to be called an anti-national). My students have raised this issue and they will fight against it. I will not lecture on it anymore," the professor said while recovering from the injuries sustained during the violent clash on the Delhi University campus on February 22.

HERE IS WHAT THE PROFESSOR SAID:
  1. On participating in the protest after Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid were not allowed to speak at at a seminar in Ramjas College: I consider my students to be friends, we have a culture of argument, discussions and debates. This idea of protest was for solidarity and it's a regular thing but it led to some kind of political wresting on the campus, and it has become a kind of cycle.
  2. On the 'azaadi' video in which some students allegedly raise 'anti-India' slogans: I did not witness any such slogans. It was a peaceful protest against the cancellation of the seminar.
  3. On being called an anti-national: It does upset me. My students have raised this issue and they will fight against it. I will not lecture on it anymore.
  4. On Gurmehar Kaur getting threats after her Facebook post against alleged hooliganism by ABVP activists: (It is a ) sign of polarisation and she is the latest victim of emotional blackmailing. She is bound to get threats, trolling is a pattern in social media and she must fight back.
  5. On seeking justice: I am talking to my legal friends who understand law well and will plan accordingly. The other justice (I seek) is one beyond the legal system.
  6. On his health: My condition is not that serious.. I was unconscious and had shooting pain the day before so had to be rushed to the hospital. They (doctors) thoroughly inspected me and found long-term abdominal issues, which will take time to cure. My ribs are not broken but have gone through a lot of stress. This means I have to take care of myself and can't take classes.
