A day after gangster Anandpal Singh, killed in a police encounter last month, was cremated in Rajasthan's Nagaur district, one of his relative today said the last rites were performed without his family's consent.

In an interview to India Today, gangster Anandpal Singh's maternal uncle Amar Singh has claimed that he was cremated without family's consent.

Singh's daughters and son were against his cremation. The funeral pyre was lit by Anandpal Singh's cousin as his own son was against cremating his father.

"The violence and the mayhem that prevailed in Nagaur district because of protestors from Rajput community was extremely unfortunate. It should not have happened," he said.

"We wanted the government to have acceded to have our six demands including that for a CBI enquiry into Anandpal Singh's encounter. Had that happened, Anandpal Singh could have been cremated with consent," Amar Singh said.

The relatives had refused to cremate the body of Singh, who was gunned down by the police on June 24, until their demand for a CBI probe into the encounter was met.
