In a deliberate provocation, MNS supremo Raj Thackeray celebrated his 48th birthday by cutting a cake with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi's image on it.

Raj was greeted by his supporters at his residence 'Krishna Kunj' at Dadar in Central Mumbai, where some supporters brought the cake with Owaisi's image on it.

Interestingly, during his party's first Gudi Padwa rally, Raj had threatened to put a knife on Owaisi's throat in Maharashtra.

Come to Maharashtra, I will put a knife to your throat, Raj Thackeray challenges Owaisi

This was in response to Owaisi's statement about not chanting 'Bharat Mata ki Jai', even if a knife is put to his throat.

This is not the first time that Raj has stoked controversy on his birthday.

In 2008, when Raj's party had launched a violent agitation against migrants in Maharashtra, the MNS supremo had a cut a cake with "bhaiyya" written on it. Bhaiyya is slang used for North Indians in Mumbai.

The AIMIM chose not to comment on the issue. Party MLA from Byculla Waris Pathan called it a frivolous issue.
