Bengaluru: Now, pro-Kannada activists want north Karnataka delicacies in Indira Canteens

Pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj lambasted the state government for neglecting north Karnataka and Hyderabad Karnataka regions in setting up Indira Canteens.

With Indira Canteens serving the needs of thousands of hungry people on a daily basis, now there are demands to open them in north Karnataka districts as well.

On Sunday morning, Pro-Kannada activists led by Vatal Nagaraj protested outside the Kempegowda Bus Station popularly known as Majestic. They brought with them Jolada rottis (unleavened Indian bread made out of jowar, originating from North Karnataka) along with chutney powder and distributed this to more than 500 people.

Vatal Nagaraj lambasted the state government for neglecting north Karnataka and Hyderabad Karnataka regions in setting up Indira Canteens. He went to add that in general those regions away from Bengaluru have been given a step-motherly treatment by the state government.

Wants menu in Indira Canteens to include north Karnataka dishes

With the menu in Indira Canteens primarily focuses on south Karnataka dishes, Vatal Nagaraj has now demanded that the officials bring in a change to include dishes from the north of the state as well. He wants jolada rottis to be served so that people from north Karnataka also get their home food.

Plans to protest in front of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha next week

Pro-Kannada activists have now threatened to intensify their stir if the officials do not heed their demands to include dishes from the north in Indira Canteens and also set up such canteens in north districts. Vatal Nagaraj has given a week's ultimatum to officials to begin this process or else they will protest in front of the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi.
