Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to celebrate India's Independence Day next month with the same fanfare that the Republic Day is observed every year on January 26.
Sources in the government have told India Today TV that Modi has instructed the ministries of Defence, Culture and Human Resource Development to plan a week-long bonanza at the India Gate in New Delhi.
Among the firsts that the Modi regime has planned this year will be a flypast on the Rajpath by the helicopters and aircraft of the Indian Air Force after he unfurls the flag at the Red Fort.
The performances of the army bands at major locations and malls in and around the national capital will be another highlight of the celebrations.
SPECIAL FOCUS OF THE EVENT
A massive exhibition on India's freedom fighters and the soldiers in the army will be a special focus of the event and remain open for the general public. Apart from that, the display of army's weapons and arsenal has also been planned.
Apart from the cultural and military display, public marathons and other sports events have also been planned by the government this August 15.
