Several people were injured after police opened fire against locals as they went berserk protesting against administration's anti-encroachment drive in Patna today.

Police had to use force when residents of Rajeev Nagar area turned violent protesting against an anti-encroachment drive.

WHAT IS THE CASE

  1. The plot from which encroachment was to be removed is located on Ghuddaud Road of Rajiv Nagar. The piece of land is disputed.
  2. In 1980, the then state government took control of the land from farmers and handed it over to the state Housing Board.
  3. Owners of the land claim they were not given any compensation by the government.
  4. The piece of land now has several houses and the government once again has initiated the process of handing over the plot to the Housing Board. The move is being objected by the residents.
  5. Situation remains tense in the area and more police force has been rushed in to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
