Sajjad Mughal, who has been convicted in Pallavi Purkayastha murder case, worked as a security guard in two housing societies while he was out on parole, he confessed in a statement to Mumbai Police.

Mughal was out on a 90-day-long furlough in February 2016 and didn't return to Nashik jail. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Purkayastha, which he committed while working as a security guard in the building where she stayed.

Once out of jail, Mughal worked as a security guard at the Atlantic Complex near Sagar City in Andheri. This was possible because his friend Bashir was a security supervisor at Sagar City. Mughal changed his name to Imran Shaikh and worked there for 15 days. After this, he also worked as a guard in an under-construction society before going to Salamabad in Kashmir.

After his furlough came to an end, he decided not to return to Nashik. He gained the sympathy of the villagers in Kashmir, saying he was framed in the case. With their help, he obained an RTP pass (issued by local police for security measures). He then started staying in the village at different locations.

A special team of the Mumbai Crime Branch was formed to arrest Mughal. He was finally nabbed on Tuesday while working at a construction site. He will be handed over to Nashik police as a case has been registered against him there. The Sajjad Mughal case had drawn the ire of a lot of people, following which changes were made in the rules for granting parole and furlough to convicts in stringent cases.
