In what can be termed as a first such incident in Odisha, a group of cow vigilantes brutally thrashed two men for transporting milch cows at the Bhubaneswar railway station this week.

The victims belonged to a Noida-based dairy farm that was transporting 20 milch cows from Salem in Tamil Nadu to Meghalaya in two parcel vans of the Kochuveli-Guwahati Express. A group of more than 20 cow vigilantes barged into the station and started assaulting the men in public glare.

The miscreants, who identified themselves as Bajrang Dal workers, also tied the victims after thrashing them.

After an hour of the attack, the injured cattle traders were later rescued by Railway Police Force personnel. Later, the station superintendent lodged a complaint with GRP stating 25 unknown persons carried out the attack. So far, no arrest have been made by the police. The traders carried legal documents which described the good health of the cows and were being supplied by a private firm to the animal husbandry department under the government of Meghalaya.
