Odisha shocker: Man chops off granddaughter's hands, strangulates her for acquiring hidden treasure
The incident took place in Odisha's Badabadi village where Harihar Sutar with the connivance of two other family members sacrificed his 6-year-old granddaughter.

In a gruesome incident, a 65-year-old man with the connivance of two other family members sacrificed his granddaughter in an attempt to acquire some hidden treasure.
The incident took place in Badabadi village in Balasore district of Odisha wherein Harihar Sutar (65) sacrificed his 6-year-old granddaughter Jasmin by chopping off her hands and strangulating her. The three accused had then disposed the girl's body in a nearby dry pond.

The police have arrested all the three accused on charges of murder.

- Police investigations revealed that Harihar sacrificed his granddaughter at the altar of Goddess Kali on April 3.
- The grandfather had a blind faith that sacrificing his granddaughter would fetch good wealth and fortune as her date and time of birth suited the superstitious act.
- "I was on my way to a nearby pond for fishing but when returned home to collect something, I saw my father strangulating my niece. When I tried to stop him, he attacked me with a knife. I feel unconscious and when I regained consciousness, it was too late," Rinku Sutar, the victim's uncle, said.
- According to Rinku, his father threatened him of dire consequences if he disclosed the incident to anyone. Harihar then locked him in a room.
- "The hands of my little daughter were chopped off before she was strangulated to death by her own grandfather and uncle," the girl's mother Minakshi Sutar said.
- The child had gone missing on April 3 and after failing to locate her, Minakshi and her husband Kamalakanta Sutar had filed an FIR.
