In Short

  • Flood situation continues to be grim in the northeast states.
  • Dhubri outpost along India-Bangladesh border is under water.
  • Large part of Dimapur in Nagaland is submerged.

Food situation continues to be grim in the northeastern states of the country. The BSF border outpost in the Dhubri sector in Assam is now under water. On the other hand, incessant rain in Nagaland has left Dimapur submerged.

The weather is posing a major challenge to the BSF jawans this monsoon as the heavy rainfall has resulted in a wide area flooded making it difficult to do regular duty on the post. The BSF jawans have to wade through the waterlogged area to keep vigil.

The nearby villages have been evacuated. But, the jawans have to man the outpost along the border with Bangladesh. Some of the border outposts are in very bad shape due to heavy rainfall. Some RCC houses too have collapsed due to floodwater in the region.

NAGALAND FLOOD SITUATION GRIM

The flood situation is no better in the neighbouring Nagaland. Rain has been incessant in the state. A large part of Dimapur is submerged under the rainwater. Rivers are overflowing in and around Dimapur.

Nagaland is already facing a political crisis, which has led to neglect of the problems being faced by the population. In the wake of continuous rain, there are reports that houses have collapsed in several areas of the state. In several villages, people are forced to shift to higher locations as floodwater has entered their homes. Authorities have evacuated people in some of the villages to safer locations and in make-shift camps.

SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT IN ASSAM

This is the state of flood in the northeast after slight improvement in situation in Assam, where nearly five lakh people are affected across 14 districts in the state.

The ASDMA said 478 villages are under water at present and nearly 29,000 hectares of crop areas are inundated. The worst affected is Morigaon, where over 66,000 people have been affected by the deluge, followed by Barpeta with more than 47,000 sufferers.
