Nitish visits flood-affected areas in Patna, takes stock of relief camps

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today visited flood-affected areas in Patna district to take stock of the flood situation and relief camps. The Bihar CM visited Maner, Danapur, Didarganj and Bakhtiarpur areas on the outskirts of the state capital which are badly hit in the floods. Thousands of people living in these areas have been displaced in one of the worst floods. Many flood victims have now been brought to relief camps set up by the government. Patna DM Sanjay Kumar and other officials accompanied Nitish during his visit.

Nitish went to the relief camps that was set up by the district administration and took stock whether the camps was functioning as per norms or not. Bihar CM last week had issued direction to the DM's of flood-affected districts to ensure that the people who are taking shelter in the relief camps are provided hygienic and nutritious food to eat in steel plates.

REVIEWED BASIC DETAILS

Nitish also reviewed whether small children at the relief camps were being provided milk or not. During the visit Nitish checked whether the new clothes for small children and sarees for women that was being distributed by the Patna administration was of standard quality.

Nitish twice earlier conducted aerial survey of the flood-affected districts and held review meeting but this was the first time on Thursday he went to take stock of situation on the ground. Nitish is believed to have directed the officials to ensure that flood-affected people in the relief camps are taken good care of. He also directed the district administration to appeal more and more people who are still stranded in riverine areas to be brought to relief camps.

Couple of days back, Nitish Kumar had met PM Narendra Modi and asked for central assistance to deal with the flood situation which had affected 28 districts in the state. RJD President Lalu Prasad also has been conducting ground survey and visiting flood-affected people.

In one of the worst floods that the state is facing post 2008 Kosi floods, more than 125 persons have lost their lives and more than 25 lack people displaced.
