Announcing developmental plans worth over Rs 2,000 crore for Agra, Gadkari said that Agra is a historic city and tourists from around the world come here to visit the marble wonder Taj Mahal. Keeping this in mind, the Modi government is working overtime to provide all facilities to the tourists arriving here so that they return home with a good image of the city and the country.

AGRA-DEKHI HIGHWAY AND AGRA-HATHRAS BYPASS

He said that the new bypass will connect Agra-Dekhi highway and Agra-Hathras. Apart from that, the inner ring road's final eight miles will also be constructed by the National Highways Corporation of India. Also, the road connecting Devri to the Gwalior highway will also be constructed by the NHAI. Other projects that Gadkari announced include several flyovers and a Rs 1,000 crore Agra-Jalesar-Sakandrarau-Bareilly national highway which will be 225 kms long. The 124.5 kms long Agra-Etawah six-lane project has also begun with a cost of Rs 1,664 crores.

Gadkari said that the southern bypass will give new freedom to the city's traffic and will connect NH-11, NH-2 and NH-4. Besides that, the northern bypass will also start soon which will connect the Delhi traffic directly to Jaipur and Gwalior road. There are several places where the connectivity is still pending but this 32.8 km bypass will enable the traffic coming from Mathura to directly go towards Jaipur instead of entering Agra.

STEAMER SERVICE BETWEEN AGRA AND DELHI

The southern bypass project had started in July 2011 and this Rs 450 crore bypass is still awaiting completion as several of the cuts on the highway are not yet completed. He said that the government will soon begin steamer service between Delhi and Agra and the cleaning of the Yamuna for that purpose has already begun.
