A massive fire erupted at Cinevista studio in Kanjurmarg area of Mumbai. The fire is said to have started at a television set where a shoot for a serial called 'Bepanah' was underway.

The fire was said to have started around 8pm and soon the fire brigade was called in. Within 25 minutes, eight fire engines and six water tankers reached the studio along with three ambulances.

Given the severity of the situation, the fire department soon upgraded the level of the fire from 2 to 3 which meant more reinforcements had to be called in. After a couple of hours, the flames were soon brought under control.

Choreographer Ahmed Khan - whose set for a music video was also gutted - was thankful that the work on his set had just begun so the loss incurred was less.

"The fact that there has been no loss of human life is the most important thing. Financial losses could be calculated later. Fires in studios are very frequent these days. would like to request everyone to look into the fire safety of these places with a keen eye," Khan said.

An eyewitness, Suresh Gupta, who worked at the studios said that the fire had spread from one set to the other very quickly.

KV Hivrale, deputy chief fire officer who spoke as the flames were being brought under control and the cooling process was underway said, "we will be speaking to eyewitnesses to understand what had happened and will file a report on the cause of fire."

When the fire started to spread uncontrollably, people were asked to vacate the premises immediately and everyone escaped unscathed.

This is not the first time that the television serial in question where the fire erupted had witnessed a fire.

A few months ago, the sets of 'Bepanah' had been gutted and the lead actor of the show Jennifer Winget got injured.

Fires at studios are frequent. A few months ago, a huge fire had gutted the iconic RK Studio and minor incidents were reported at other studios as well.

Inside Cinevista studio, fire fighting equipment could be seen lying around on the sets and there were even water sources.

However the recurrence of fires in various studios in just a few months has now raised issues concerning the fire safety audits of these places.
