With a hair-raising speech, US First Lady Michelle Obama brought the Democratic National Convention to its feet on Monday.

In a 15-minute speech Michelle endorsed Hillary Clinton, talked about her daughters, shared a vision for America and calmly trolled Donald Trump, without even taking his name. By the time she concluded, many in the crowd were in tears, while hundreds others screamed "We love you, Michelle!"

Michelle pitched the presidential race as a choice between positive and negative role models for children. Endorsing Hillary Clinton, she didn't leave much doubt about who the negative role model was.

Here are 10 quotes from the speech where she silently lambasted Trump:

1. "... we urge them (her daughters) to ignore those who question their father's citizenship or faith... we insist that the hateful language they hear from public figures on TV does not represent the true spirit of this country."

2. "... when someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don't stoop to their level. No. Our motto is, when they go low, we go high."

3. "... when she (Hillary Clinton) didn't win the nomination eight years ago, she didn't get angry or disillusioned."

4. "Hillary knows that this is so much bigger than her own desires and disappointments."

5. "... the issues a president faces are not black-and-white and cannot be boiled down to 140 characters."

6. "Because when you have the nuclear codes at your fingertips and the military at your command, you can't make snap-decisions. You can't have a thin skin or a tendency to lash out. You need to be steady and measured and well-informed."

7. "I want a president with a record of public service, someone whose life's work shows our children that we don't chase fame and fortune for ourselves, we fight to give everyone a chance to succeed."

8. "I want a president who will teach our children that everyone in this country matters."

9. "And when crisis hits, we don't turn against each other. No, we listen to each other, we lean on each other, because we are always stronger together."

10. "... so don't let anyone ever tell you that this country isnt great, that somehow we need to make it great again. Because this right now is the greatest country on Earth."

Michelle's rousing speech had people raving around the world - some went on to compare it with Martin Luther King's acclaimed "I Have A Dream" speech. In the audience, Bill Clinton was seen exclaiming "wow" before going on to give her a standing ovation.
