BJP demands arrest of suspended JD(U) MLA, Congress leader accused of molesting minor Dalit girl

The BJP has called for the immediate arrest of suspended Janata Dal United (JD(U)) MLA Mewa Lal Chowdhary and senior Congress leader Brajesh Pandey, who've been accused of corruption and molesting a minor Dalit girl, respectively.

Mewa Lal Chowdhary was suspended from the JD(U) today, after an FIR was registered against him for illegally recruiting personnel when he was the Vice-Chancellor of Bihar Agriculture University, Bhagalpur. Chowdhary joined the JD(U) after his retirement, and won the Tarapur Assembly seat in 2015.

In 2012, Chowdhary allegedly made several illegal appointments for assistant professor and junior scientist posts.

Acting on complaints were made against Chowdary by victim applicants, Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kobind ordered a probe under Justice (retd) Syed Md. Mahfooz Alam, who found the charges against the JD(U) MLA to be true.

"Mere suspension of the MLA is not enough. He should be arrested. The Committee has found in its report that irregular appointments did take place during Mewa Lal Chowdhary's tenure as Vice-Chancellor. We will raise this issue in the ongoing session of the Bihar Assembly," said BJP leader Sushil Modi.

BJP CALLS FOR ARREST OF BRAJESH PANDEY

Congress leader Brajesh Pandey, who allegedly molested a minor Dalit girl and has been made a non-FIR accused in the case, is also evading arrest.

Pandey's name also figured in a police report for being part of a well-organised sex racket, allegedly run by automobile dealer Nikhil Priyadarshi. "Why has Brajesh Pandey not been arrested till now? Pandey is a senior leader of the Congress which is (an) alliance partner in the Bihar government and therefore police is also protecting him", alleged Sushil Modi.
