Messenger of God Ram Rahim's Dera Sacha Sauda to wield broom for swachh Capital

The BJP-ruled municipal corporations will soon have a strong team of volunteers to help getting the city rid of garbage in four months. The BJP is roping in social organisations and spiritual leaders and with them their lakhs of followers to carry out sanitation drive in the national capital. To begin with, the party has involved Dera Sacha Sauda led by Gurmeet Singh Ram Rahim whose nearly 1.5 lakh volunteers will lead a massive cleanliness drive on Sunday.

The move assumes significance in wake of BJP's promise to make Delhi free from garbage and mosquitoes in four months. A senior BJP leader said all three civic bodies will extend resources to these volunteers so as to carry out the work smoothly.

"We have received great response for the noble cause. We will begin the cleanliness drive on Sunday with the help Dera Saccha Sauda volunteers. We want the result to be seen on ground. Mere announcements won't serve the purpose," Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said.

Interestingly, the sanitation drive will also be supported by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) which has assured the municipal corporations of all logistical support for garbage disposal.

"While the volunteers will assist sanitation workers in cleaning the city, the civic bodies will deploy all machinery to dump the garbage to the landfill sites," an official said.

Soon after the municipal election results, Tiwari had announced that the priority was to make Delhi garbage-free.

GARBAGE-FREE CAPTIAL

Elaborating further, Tiwari said priority will be to remove garbage from streets in residential colonies and popular markets that are frequented by a 'Messenger of God' to wield broom for swachh Capital large population of Delhi. "Our target is to clean 80 per cent of the city and the civic bodies have been told to deploy its resources for the same," Tiwari said.

He added that meetings have been held with officials of all civic bodies and a blueprint has been given to execute the plan.

"Our aim is to engage maximum social groups and individuals with the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'. Once the streets and markets are cleaned, the civic bodies will have to ensure its upkeep," he said. Earlier, Mail Today had reported that the Delhi BJP told MCD babus to motivate the sanitation workers in three corporations and involve them in the process.

They have been told to address the financial and personal needs of nearly one lakh sanitation workers - failing which the four-month target of garbage-free Delhi would not be achieved. Tiwari has told the municipal commissioners to motivate sanitation workers by involving their families through cultural events and get together. A committee is also likely to be formed to look into the welfare of the sanitation workers.

The committee will interact with workers and their families to understand their grievances and accordingly suggest measure to address them.
