People and not EVMs should choose representatives: BSP chief Mayawati

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday said that the electronic voting machines used in the recently ended Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections was tampered with.

"Representatives should be of people's choice and not that of EVMs," she said. "Democracy is being murdered," she added.

Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien tried to pacify her, saying that the matter on electoral reforms was scheduled for discussion on Wednesday and the issue can be then discussed. He also assured Congress' Digvijaya Singh that his demand for discussion on the conduct for Goa Governor Mridula Sinha's conduct was under examination.

"It is under serious consideration. You need not worry," he said.
