An Income Tax Department probe has revealed that Anand Kumar, the brother of BSP chief Mayawati, may have acquired bename property worth between Rs 2,000 crore and Rs 3,000 crore.

In a development that is bound to create trouble for the Bahujan Samaj Party, an Income Tax Department probe has revealed that Mayawati's brother Anand Kumar may have acquired benami property of up to Rs 3,000 crores. Income Tax officials will soon quiz SK Jain, a Delhi based businessman in the matter.

Sources in Income Tax Department told India Today that Jain has played a major role in Anand Kumar acquiring benami properties, which are estimated to be worth between Rs 2000 crore and Rs 3000 crore. The department had carried out at extensive surveys at the properties of Anand Kumar on 6th April.

Post-search investigations have revealed that Jain, who has already been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in its crackdown against bogus companies, had provided accommodation entries to Anand Kumar to help the BSP vice-president allegedly acquire benami assets.

At least three valuable properties on the posh Sardar Patel Marg have reportedly been acquired by Kumar through benami channels. Sources said Jain helped Anand obtain accommodation entries through long term capital gains, share capital, share premium and unsecured loans.

Aditya Antibiotics, Aditya Shares, Agroha Pvt. Ltd, Sachi Properties Pvt. Ltd, Vrindavan Investments Pvt. Ltd are a few companies are under the Income Tax Department's scanner in this connection. Naveen Infrastrctures Developers and Engineers is also being probed. These companies are suspected to have been used to provide accommodation entries.

According to the investigations, Anand Kumar had acquired Tamanna Developers Pvt. Ltd, which earlier provided entries to him for facilitating acquisition of benami property. Presently Jain is in judicial custody after the Enforcement Directorate arrested him in another case.

In March this year, the Enforcement Directorate had arrested Jain and his brother in connection with its probe in a Rs 8,000 crore money laundering racket. They were allegedly laundering unaccounted money through the process of placement of funds, layering of transactions and the integration of laundered money into banking channels camouflaged as legitimate share premium transactions. The two received a cut of the unaccounted money for their actions.

Sources said decision to summon Anand Kumar will be taken after the questioning of SK Jain. Mayawati's brother Anand Kumar worked as a clerk in Noida Authority before his sister came to power. Soon after BSP's victory his assets skyrocketed and he floated numerous companies.
