Mamata's minister defies her on Padmavati, slams Bhansali for playing with history
This is perhaps for the first time a TMC leader has been so critical about the release of Padmavati.
The raging controversy on Padmavati has now reached the eastern part of country.
TMC leader and Consumer Affairs Minister of West Bengal, Sadhan Pande has gone all guns blazing against the movie and its release.
Speaking exclusively to India Today, Pande said, "There is a big controversy regarding this movie. I appreciate the independence of the director and actors. But in our country when it comes to historic films, the director has be very cautious."
This is perhaps for the first time a TMC leader has been so critical about the release of Padmavati.
He has raised strong objection to distorting history in the name of dreams and song sequences. He sought censor board intervention too.
"If the director makes up a dream sequence between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji in compromising positions, then that is objectionable. The censor board should delete those portions and then release the movie."
Despite being critical of the movie he ensured to stand by the right and respect of an actor.
Pande stated, "I am against people saying that Deepika Padukone should be beheaded. That is nonsense. But, Sanjay Leela Bhansali cannot play with history. It's like putting Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in some objectionable content. Padmavati is respected in Rajasthan and by the Rajput clan. The director should have known this."
"We have to draw a line. Historical films should be put in right perspective. Don't touch historical films if you can't write the script well."
