West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday refused to acknowledge complaints of police brutality against journalists who were covering a Left Front agitation programme in Kolkata earlier this week.

Banerjee snapped at journalists when asked if her government would initiate any action against the errant police officers. "I'm not going to give you the answer", she told India Today, accusing the media of "indulging in politics".

"Tell your people to behave properly. Don't indulge in politics like Ganashakti (CPIM mouthpiece) reporters", a visibly angry Mamata said rebuking mediapersons.

JOURNALISTS HOLD PROTEST MARCH

On Tuesday, several journalists had marched up to the Kolkata police headquarters to register their protest against Monday's police excess in which more than a dozen scribes were injured and their cameras smashed .

While the Kolkata police said that it would investigate the complaints, the chief minister, who also holds the home department portfolio, has maintained a stoic silence on the issue.

The Trinamool Congress supremo, who left for New Delhi on Wednesday, said she would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the capital as soon as she gets an appointment.
