Under the Central scheme 'Swachatta Hi Seva' (Cleanliness is service), Madhya Pradesh government teachers in Tikamgarh district have been directed to dig up septic tanks in rural areas.

The order has been signed by the district education officer.

Under the initiative that was launched to mobilise people to work towards the Clean India dream, all CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan Cabinet ministers will also dig up septic tanks.

Tikamgarh teachers are however not happy with this development. "The CM and other ministers will do the digging as part of a photo opportunity. Photograpers will come and once they are gone the digging will stop but for the teachers the DEO has made it mandatory to dig septic tanks. Teachers in Madhya Pradesh are being asked to do everything but teach in schools."

Speaking to India Today on condition of anonymity, another angry teacher said, "Only teachers of Tikamgarh district have got such a directive while other districts have been spared."
