Kulbhushan Jhadav row: Pakistan is hypocritical nation, they have insulted all Indians, says TMC

The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday raised the Kulbhushan Jadhav issue inside Parliament with senior party leader Saugata Roy, seeking a response from external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on the insult meted out to Jadhav's family in Pakistan.

The TMC, which was accused of minority appeasement for its adversarial stance on the Rohingya refugee issue came out strongly condemning Pakistan viz-a-viz Jadhav.

"We must all condemn the treatment meted out to the family of Kulbhushan Jadhav in Pakistan. To ask a Hindu woman to take off her mangalsutra is condemnable. They were even asked to open their shoes. There must be strictest condemnation of this behaviour. I want the Minister of External Affairs, who is present here, to make a statement on this issue," Saugata Roy said.

The Parliament, which met after a four-day break witnessed opposition members raising the matter while condemned the hostile reception to Jadhav's family members during their visit to Islamabad.

On Monday, his family was allowed to meet him after a favourable verdict at the International Court of Justice.

This was the first meeting between Jadhav and his family since he was arrested in March 2016 after repeated denials to allow him consular access.

On Tuesday, India had accused Pakistan of violating the conditions set for allowing the family members to meet him. Jadhav, a former Indian naval officer is facing death penalty in Pakistan on charges of espionage.

"The family of Kulbhushan Jadhav got the permission to visit him because of the verdict of International Court of Justice. Every Indian must condemn the treatment. I want to add that Pakistan is a hypocritical nation. They indulge in lies. They have insulted our countrymen. We must condemn this," Roy added.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is scheduled to make a statement on Kulbhushan Jadhav in Parliament on Thursday.
