Suresh has been admitted to AKG hospital in Kannur. Police say both were injured on the head.

Security in Kannur was beefed up on Wednesday for the processions taken out by the BJP and the CPM. While the BJP held processions as part of Janmashtami celebrations, CPM took out their own "we are one" campaign against communalism, which drew flak from other parties.

Considering the tensions prevailing in different parts of the district between the two parties, police had even assigned separate routes for the processions.
